Phone Lanyard Reviews and Advice
New to using a phone lanyard or phone strap? Let us help you with the things you need to consider to help you make the right choice.
1. Look for quality
You want your phone strap to last and to help keep your phone secure - so quality is important. Strong materials such as braided nylon cord and metal hardware are important.
We also recommend that you look a strap with metal hardware that uses a screws to connect to the cord. Cheaper phone straps may only have the cord glued into the end cap that connects it to the cord. Straps that feature metal end caps with screws will hold the cord more firmly and give greater product reliability.
We highly recommend our Comfortable and Durable Everyday Phone Strap because of the quality materials from which it is constructed, and the use of screws to hold the cord into the end cap.
2. Look for comfort
If you're travelling, bush walking, or even just shopping, you're going to be wearing your phone strap or lanyard for an extended time - so you want it to be comfortable.
My son loves the Scrunchy Phone strap because of its wider elasticated strap that is covered in non-scratchy material.
Depending on your height and body shape, you may also want to ensure your choose a cross body phone strap that has an adjustable length - which allows you to wear your phone at your hip, waist, or wherever is comfortable for you.
The Adjustable Length Cross Body Phone Lanyard is a great option for those who want to take their phone with them when out walking but don't want the hassle of carrying a bag.
3. Look for function
While phone straps are pretty simple, they don't all do the same things.
Our number one tip is to look for a phone strap that will connect securely to your existing phone case. Universal tethers save the expense of having to update your phone case to add a strap - and work with most standard phone cases. You can learn more about universal tethers on our review page.
Universal tethers also provide easy flexibility to unclip and change your phone lanyard, depending on your activity.
Some have extra hooks to allow you to attach keys or other items (like doggy poo bags) to them, such as the Ultimate Comfort Cross Body Phone Lanyard for Active Lifestyles.
For those who insist on wearing their phone in their back pocket (not recommended) or worried about pick pockets, consider a phone strap that connects to your clothing. Our phone strap with retractable cord and carabiner clip allows you to connect the carabiner to your belt loop, or the inside of your hand bag, providing additional security against pick pockets.
4. Look for style
Like any accessory, your phone lanyard expresses a little bit of who you are - whether that's an active walker, festival goer, keen phone photographer, or sophisticated restaurant patron. That means you need to choose a style - or styles - that suit your personality.
There are lots of great options that go beyond the functional to help you make a style statement. Check out our collection of stylish phone straps to elevate your outfit.
